- Bandra-Worli Sea Link
The Rajiv Gandhi Sea Link is commonly known as the Bandra-Worli Sea link, situated in the state of Maharashtra the commercial capital of India over the Mahim Bay. This 5.2-kilometre aesthetic bridge is a marvel of engineering. It is a cable-stayed bridge with pre-stressed concrete steel viaduct on either side that links Bandra in the western suburbs with Worli in the south. This construction of this eight-lane bridge was started in 2000 and ended on 24 March 2010 at a cost of USD 16 billion. Bandra-Worli sea link is one of the longest bridges in India.
2. Mahatma Gandhi Setu
This bridge was named after the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi. Located in Hajipur, Patna of Bihar it is one of the longest bridges in India which crosses over the river Ganga. This 5,575-metre girder bridge is 25 metres wide and has 40 piers in water. The construction of this bridge was started in the year 1972 and ended in the year 1982. It was inaugurated in the may 1982 by the Prime Minister Mrs Indra Gandhi. This bridge is also the one of the longest bridges in India.
3. Vikramshilla Setu
This two-lane roadway and pedestrian pathways bridge is among the longest bridges in India. This 3rd most extended setu is a bridge across the river Ganga, near Bhagalpur district of Bihar. It was opened in the year 2001 for public, and its 4.7-kilometre length connects Bhagalpur to Purina kathiar. Vikramshilla setu is the 3rd longest bridges in India.
4. Vembanad Rail Bridge
Vembanad Rail Bridge is a rail bridge that connects Edappally and vallarpadam in the state of Kerala. It is one of the longest bridges in India having a total length of 4.62 kilometres. This beam bridge is 5 metre in width and 7.5 metres in height. The construction of this bridge was done by AFCON Infrastructure Ltd., Which was started in the year 2007 and ended in the year 2010 across the Vembanad Lake.
5. Ganga Rail Road Bridge
Under construction, this bridge is going to be one the longest bridges in India after its completion, which is going to connect Digha Ghat in Patna and Pahleja Ghat in Sonepur across river Ganges in the state of Bihar. The construction of this railroad bridge was started in the year 2003 and ended in the year 2015. This K-truss bridge is about 4.556 kilometres long and 10 metres in width, having 36 numbers of spans which provide the stability and strength against the flow of Ganges.
6. Penumudi- puligadda bridge
It is also one of the longest bridges in India which connect the Guntur district with Krishna district in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Navayuga Engineering Company Ltd. constructed this 4 kilometre bridge and become operational in the year 2006 under the ownership of Andhra Pradesh Road Development Corporation.
7. Munger Ganga Bridge
Munger Ganga is a rail-cum-road bridge is situated across the river Ganges and still under construction. The construction of this 3.190-kilometre bridge was started in the year 2002 and is expected to complete in the year 2015. This 3.190-kilometre bridge is a k-truss bridge is 12 metre in width and will carry rail and road. It is located in the in the state of Bihar and will connect Munger with Jamalpur twin cities to various part of The North Bihar.
8. Nehru Setu
The Nehru setu is constructed across the Son River which connects Dehri-on–son and Son Nagar in the state of Bihar. This 3.064-metre steel girder on stone pillar bridge was opened for the common mass in the year 1900 which have 93 number of spans. It is the second longest railway bridge in Kerala after Vembanad Rail Bridge and also included in the list of top longest bridges in India.
9. Jawahar Setu
Named after India’s first Prime Minister, this road bridge carries the Grand Trunk Road/NH 2. This 3.061-kilometre bridge was opened in the year 1965 which connects Dehri-on-Son and Son Nagar, in the state of Bihar. It was built by the present day construction giant Gammon India in the year 1900 across Son River which run parallel to the Nehru Setu. This bridge is one of the oldest longest bridges in India.
10. Kolia Bhomora Setu
Located in the serene beauty of Assam. This bridge is built over the river Brahmaputra near Tezpur. The bridge connects Sonitpur district with Nagaon district. This 3.015-kilometre bridge was opened for the ordinary people after six years of construction which started in the year 1981. It has a clear carriageway of 7.5 metres and 9-metre width. It plays significant role in connecting and developing the North-East India with the rest of the India. Before the construction of Kolia Bhomora Bridge, the Saraighat bridge was only means the connection between North East and rest of the India.
