Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) today announced that the Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru (BLR Airport) has been awarded the prestigious SKYTRAX Award for ‘Best Regional Airport in India and Central Asia’ by air travellers at the World Airport Awards, held at the Passenger Terminal EXPO in Amsterdam, Netherlands on 14th March 2017.
The SKYTRAX World Airport Awards is the largest passenger satisfaction assessment and the most prestigious among all the surveys measuring airport service excellence and quality. The World Airport Awards are based on 13.82 million airport survey questionnaires that were completed by 105 different nationalities of air travelers during the survey period.
The survey operated from July 2016 to February 2017, covering 550 airports worldwide and evaluating traveller experiences across different airport service and product key performance indicators across 39 key performance indicators, evaluating the end-to-end traveler experience from check-in, arrivals, transfers, shopping, security and immigration through to departure at the gate. A key directive of the survey is for customers to make their own, personal choices as to which airport they consider to be the best, underlining the brand as the Passenger’s Choice Awards.
Regional Airports refers to the airports operating short international and domestic flights, rather than having a vast intercontinental network. BLR Airport was previously recognized as the Best Airport in India by SKYTRAX in 2011 and Best Regional Airport in Central Asia in 2015.
“We are honoured to receive this prestigious industry award again and are immensely grateful to everyone who voted for us. We’ve remained steadfast in our commitment to offer our travellers a naturally easy experience at the Bengaluru Airport. Over the last year we have innovated and introduced many new initiatives that focus on simplifying passenger travel. This iconic award is also a reflection of the passion, perseverance and commitment to excellent service delivery by all our partners. It is indeed heartening that the results are being seen and felt by our passengers across the globe who have rated us to win this award”, said Mr. Sanjay Reddy, MD, BIAL.
BLR Airport is the busiest airport in South India and third largest in the country. It caters to over 22 million passengers annually and growing at 22.5% year-on-year. The airport has also seen a significant increase in passenger traffic and growth due to the high-yield business traffic market and the inherent value proposition in catering to the business travelers and VFR (visiting friends and relatives) market.
Additionally, BIAL has made consistent efforts to offer passengers seamless inter-regional and intra-regional connectivity and introduced services that improve accessibility to other regions from the airport.
Mr. Edward Plaisted, CEO of Skytrax said: “We congratulate Bengaluru International Airport for their success in winning this important customer satisfaction award, a quality benchmark for the world airport industry. It underlines how much the airport continues to improve standards of customer service to again be recognised as the Best Regional Airport in India and Central Asia region.”
